ANESTHESIA & PAIN MANAGEMENT CHARGES

  • The fee for the anesthesia provider is billed directly to the patient. This fee is separate from the facility or surgeon’s fees. As a courtesy, we bill the insurance company first. Once your insurer has paid us, then we bill the patient for the deductible and co-payments. The balance is due upon receipt of the billing statement.

  • The bill is based on several factors such as the type of surgical procedure, the time involved and your health status. We bill according to the standards of the American Board of Anesthesiologists.

  • The medical facility where your surgery was performed will send you a separate bill for anesthetic medicines, gases, and use of monitoring and disposable equipment. We do not receive any of these funds.

  • Expect an explanation of benefits (EOB) from your insurance company within 60 days of your surgery. If you have not received an EOB within that time frame, we suggest that you contact your insurance carrier directly to determine claim status. The company may be waiting for additional information either from another healthcare provider or from you.

PAYMENT POLICY

We realize that surgery expenses can be significant, so we will do everything we can to accommodate your financial needs. If you do not have insurance or cannot afford to pay the balance in full within 30 days, please contact the billing department to set up a monthly payment plan.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are your billing office hours?

  • Abeo is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and closed on major holidays. If the office is closed or in the unlikely event that you are unable to reach a staff member during regular business hours, please leave a message on our voice mail system. Our staff will call you back as soon as possible.

How is anesthesia charged?

  • The anesthesia bill is calculated from base units (determined by the type of surgery) and time units (15 minute increments). The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) assigns the charged values for the time spent with you before, during, and following surgery.

When will my insurance company make a payment?

  • Each insurance company varies on payment times. Bayside Anesthesia processes claims within 2 to 3 weeks from the date of service. Most insurance companies pay claims within 45 days.

Why does the hospital also charge for anesthesia?

  • The hospital charges for all supplies, medications and equipment used for your anesthesia. Bayside Anesthesia bills only for the professional services provided by the anesthesiologist and has no relationship with the facility charges for anesthesia.

How is my anesthesia charge determined?

  • If you have medical insurance, the amount you owe will be determined by your company’s insurance provider participation and the terms of your policy.

What if I do not have medical insurance?

  • We strive to make our services affordable and cost reasonable. Bayside Anesthesia will make every attempt to assist those without insurance coverage. Please contact your surgeon, who will assist you in contacting us.

Can I get an estimate of my anesthesia cost?

  • Yes. Contact us at (866) 857-1361 for an estimate and we will be happy to help you. Please note that we can only give an estimate as anesthesia charges are dependent on the duration of surgery which is variable.
